riptide gp renegade review

The Riptide series has made a nice home on Android providing a great arcade racing experience. Now, there’s the third installment in the form of Riptide GP Renegade, which continues the watercraft racing. The main change is that there’s a distinct storyline that presents your character kicked off the Riptide GP racing league, leaving you to race illegally. The first two games were played in the comfort of specific tracks, but the third edition sends you to public waterways, flooded ruins, factory machinery, and other new raceways. Not only are you racing in new places, but the storyline offers structure and incentive to keep playing from race to race.

Riptide GP: Renegade offers a lot of content to race through with five story chapters that each feature four subsections with each subsection offering three to four events or a boss race. In addition to the main story mode, there are bonus challenges to unlock with each chapter for even more to race through. As with any Riptide game, there’s more than the single player mode, and with Riptide GP: Renegade there’s up to eight player online multiplayer in addition to time trials and split screen local multiplayer. There’s so much to do, but it takes more than offering a lot of content. Again, the game offers intrinsic incentive to keep you racing over waves.

The core arcade racing gameplay is still what shines in Riptide GP: Renegade. You get to race on ever changing waterways as the water cycles and flows based on the track and the other racers. Not only that, but you get to attempt stunts in addition to just racing to the finish line. The stunts are great to pull off with various swipe gestures, and the stuns build up your boost to help you in your quest for first. The courses aren’t restricted to race tracks anymore, and with the new layouts, come new potential stunt launching points. Each race has so much more going on than a simple race to the finish, and that’s what makes the entire game so compelling. The only real drawback is that race success can be significantly dependent on upgrades more than racing style. You can race better, and finish last, or race worse and finish first in the same race mode depending upon the upgrades you have.

Riptide GP Renegade delivers one of the best arcade racing experiences on Android, whether it’s on land, air, or sea making it a must have.
